Jakarta (ANTARA Jambi) - The House of Representatives' Commission III approved the appointment of Commissioner General Sutarman to become the new national police chief here on Thursday evening.

"Nine political party factions have expressed their views and approval to appoint Commissioner General Sutarman to become the new national police chief and to approve the resignation of current police chief General Timur Pradopo," Commission III chairman Pieter Zulkifli said following the end of testing of the police chief candidate by the House.

The Commission approved the sole candidate nominated by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono following a long process of testing.

Commissioner General Sutarman is currently head of the national police command's crime investigation department. He would replace General Timur Pradopo who would retire in January next year.(Ant)
