Jambi (ANTARA Jambi) - As many as 17 prisoners escaped  from the Bangko Class II Penitentiary in Merangin District, Jambi province, on Sunday by breaking the cell's roof.

"They escaped by breaking the roof of the cell," Head of Correctional Division of Jambi Provincial Law and Human Rights Office Wahidin said on Sunday.

The prisoners escaped from the penitentiary on Sunday  at around 01:00 am local time by using sarongs, traditional fabric, to climb the cell's wall to reach the roof.

Knowing that the prisoners were trying to escape, the warden went after the escaped prisoners.

Ten out of 17 escaped prisoners have been arrested, while the other seven are still at large.

"Officers of Bangko Penitentiary are searching for the escaped prisoners," Wahidin said.(Ant)
