Jambi,(Antara) - State-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II said it plans to expand the Sultan Thaha airport of Jambi into an international airport.

"The runway and the passenger terminal would be expanded," Chief Executive of PT Angkasa Pura II Muhammad Awaluddin said here on Friday.

Angkasa Pura II is drawing plan for the expansion of terminal up to 2,000 square meters, Awaluddin said.

Construction is to start in mid 2018 after the process of tender is to be wrapped up in September 2017, he said after heading the ceremony celebrating the 72nd anniversary of the Indonesian independence day.

He said Jambi needs an international airport to facilitate visits by foreign tourists , adding the province has potential tourist objects.(AS/a014)
