Jambi (ANTARA Jambi) - Thick haze shrouded Jambi City over the past few days reducing visibility to just 500 meters, said a local weather forecaster.

All flights in Jambi airport were postponed on Friday morning owing to poor visibility triggered by haze from forest and plantation fires, Kurnianingsih of the Jambi meteorology, climatology and geophysics office, stated here on Friday.

Some 17 hotspots were detected at four districts in Jambi Province. Terra and Aqua satellites detected two hotspots in Muarojambi district, three in West Tanjung Jabung, six in East Tanjung Jabung and another six in Tebo.

The satellites also detected more than 100 hotspots of forest and plantation fires in South Sumatra.(Ant)
